STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — On Staten Island, you can’t take the “sea” out of the December holiday season! Indeed, the most frequently asked question at this time of year revolves around where to find the best fish or where to source specific catches.

Just to cast out some fishy nostalgia: We lament the closure of Island Fish of Dongan Hills, which went dark during the pandemic. Some of us still might miss Boston Fish Market, formerly of West Brighton, and its chowder. Gone also are the days of scoring lutefisk from a neighborhood vendor or fresh snails from a barrel at the likes of a pork store like Montalbano’s of Rosebank.
