A new cocktail spot is open on Houston Street downtown. Sojourn Trading Co. was created by Derik Cortez, who’s managed bars at Mixtli and Jazz, TX, along with restaurateur Andrew Carillo, of Armadillo’s Texas Style Burgers. It serves cold kitchen eats (think oysters, ceviche and tuna bits) plus a variety of cocktails. It has a tropical décor and is located to the west of the San Pedro Creek Culture Park. Mondays are industry nights, which means discounts for local hospitality workers.

Chef Robbie Nowlin and the team at Allora are taking over the menu at sister restaurant Arrosta, creating a new sit-down dinner service. The two restaurants opened earlier this year near Pearl, with Arrosta acting as a fast-casual café with coffee, wine and all-day food options. It will transition in mid-September to a dinner-only eatery with a focus on comfort Italian food like you might find in a Roman trattoria. Dishes such as housemade pastas, rotisserie meats, alla parmigiana eggplant and chicken will be available to enjoy on the restaurant’s patio or its indoor space. “We’re bringing the success and happiness of Allora to Arrosta in a way that can be appreciated by all—it’s a family affair,” said Pete Selig, president of Maverick Restaurant Group, which is behind Allora and Arrosta. “If you like Allora, you’re going to love the new affordable and speedy Arrosta.”

The owners of Sol y Luna Baking Co. announced on social media this week that they will close on Sunday, Sept. 4. The bakery on DeZavala Road was known for its housemade bread, kolaches, cinnamon rolls and chocolate almond croissants. It also had a weekend bread stand at Pearl Farmers Market. “After much soul searching, we have decided to hang up our rolling pins, retire and focus on our family and friends,” they wrote.

Guests at Southerleigh Haute South at The Rim can now enjoy options from new lunch and dinner menus, rather than the all-day menu the eatery has offered in the past. The change comes as the restaurant approaches its two-year anniversary and at the same time its sister eatery, Southerleigh Fine Food & Brewery, has closed for a refresh. Southerleigh Haute South will now serve lunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays, with offerings like po’ boys, Gulf fry baskets, short rib stroganoff and a pimento patty melt. Happy hour will run from 3 to 5 p.m. and dinner service from 5 to 9 p.m. Dinner-only specials include beef short rib, homemade chicken pot pie, redfish on the half shell and more. Several menu items, including the double cheeseburger, broiled oysters and classic crab cake, will be offered during both lunch and dinner. Weekend brunch, lunch and dinner service will still be available.

The San Antonio–based burger chain, Burger Boy, opened its sixth location at Loop 1604 and I-35 in Live Oak this week. This is the restaurant’s first location outside of San Antonio’s city limits. “Everyone has been patiently waiting, and we are excited to finally be able to

serve this community,” co-owner Bryce Pohlmeier said, in a statement. The eatery is known for its crinkle fries, never-frozen beef burgers and housemade shakes.

On Sept. 11, Best Quality Daughter will host “Good Little Trouble in China,” a fundraising event supporting Planned Parenthood South Texas and Lift Louisiana. Chef Jennifer Hwa Dobbertin will be joined by New Orleans chef Mason Hereford, of Turkey and Wolf. The evening, for guests 21 and older, will include specialty cocktails like the Purple Texas and a Künstler Brewing beer called the Morning After Pils. Specially curated dishes will include collard melts and deviled eggs with crispy chicken skin plus wagyu scallion pancake sandwiches and chorizo and egg dumplings. Tickets are $150 and proceeds will be split evenly between the two benefitting organizations.

Fans at Saturday’s opening Roadrunner football game can purchase Bud Light in limited-edition UTSA-branded cans. Bud Light and Silver Eagle Beverages announced the partnership this week and said UTSA is one of just four Texas universities to receive special cans. Along with being available at the Alamodome, the cans also will be sold at some bars and in local convenience and in grocery stores, including the H-E-Bs on I-10 W. near the Dominion, Loop 1604 and Huebner Road, Alon Market on Wurzbach Road, in Lytle, and on Bandera Road.
